Look closely at the surface
Loop and cut piles create different visual effects. A smooth surface, a visible loop and a more textured finish can make the same colour feel quite different in a room.
Look at a sample from more than one direction. Light and pile direction affect the way the surface appears, so the view from a doorway may not match the view beside a window.
Match the discussion to the room
Think about how the space is used, where people walk and what sits on the floor. A bedroom, a staircase and a shared living space each bring different practical questions.
Product-specific suitability matters more than a broad label. Keep fibre, construction, intended use and the manufacturer's care guidance together when comparing options.
The finish includes what is underneath
Underlay, preparation and fitting are part of the finished floor, not separate afterthoughts. Existing levels, door clearances and the transitions to adjoining rooms should be considered before the final choice.
A measured plan also helps explain seams, pile direction and the way the material will be arranged. Those details should be discussed as part of the complete installation, rather than discovered on the day.
